V

Something important happened a few days ago, the new BLACK DAHLIA MURDER album came out, and it is impressive. If you are a fan of heavy music then this is something worth a listen, in just the first time through I heard obvious bits and pieces (in a good way) of 20 years of Death Metal/Thrash/Black Metal.

Here's MOONLIGHT EQUILIBRIUM their teaser track. Do yourself a favor though and go get this album.

III

Been busy with non-musical things and haven't been back to the blog to update but now I'm back and have a handful of posts in the wings and a lot of great music to share with you.

First I want to start with a band that I was hooked on instantly, FISTER.

Give them a listen, I've got my eyes on their split with The Lion's Daughter which you can order from Pissfork Anticulture HERE. While you're there check out the tape from CONAN, HORSEBACK BATTLE HAMMER, a great piece of analog doom.

II

Piggy backing on what I posted yesterday comes three bands that are related to Hooded Menace by a shared member, Lasse Pyykko.

First up is Vacant Coffin

Then we have Phlegethon (actually a precursor to VC & HM) started in 1988, broke up in the mid 90s and then they reunited in 2006.

And lastly Acid Witch. AW put out STONED in 2010 and it was on a lot of top ten lists for the year. I keep it in steady rotation.

I

I wanted to start Music of the Blind Dead as an alternative to posting all the videos and musical musings I had on my Facebook or Twitter pages. One thing I will try and keep to a minimum is genre labeling, I feel that arguing over if something is Death/Doom or Sludge is defeating the purpose of listening to music. Music is a visceral experience that you should feel in the pit of your stomach. If it does that who cares if it's Black Metal/Ska or Shoegaze/DnB?

That said I wanted to start out with a band who embodies Music of the Blind Dead so thoroughly, Hooded Menace. The deciding factor was really simple, all of their lyrics are taken from the movie series that this blog is named after. Add to that the fact they are punishing to listen to and my first post has to go out to HOODED MENACE.

This is taken from their 2010 album "Never Cross The Dead" and is a perfect example of what they do. Slower heavily distorted guitar riffs as the singer growls like it's 1981 and he's inventing death metal. This album gets played at least every other day at my house, usually early in the morning to get the day started.

I'm going to keep the first post short and only one band to start out with, in the future I'm going to include multiple bands that are similar in some way and see how that goes.
